🍇 Grape: Riesling

🌍 Country: Germany

📍 Region: Mosel

🍃 Viticulture practice: Sustainable viticulture

2018 Longuicher Maximin Herrenberg Grosses Gewächs from Weingut Carl Loewen is a distinguished dry Riesling crafted from ungrafted vines planted in 1896. Sourced from the esteemed Maximin Herrenberg vineyard in Longuich, Mosel, this wine exemplifies the profound depth and complexity achievable from century-old vines.

In the glass, it presents a bright lemon color. The nose offers a beguiling array of primary fruits and herb notes, with aromas of stone fruit, herbs, spice, and a hint of smoke.

On the palate, it is ever so slightly sweet with gooseberries, grapefruit, and subtle lime notes, complemented by dried herb tones throughout. The wine's racy acidity and mineral textures provide a tense and undeveloped minerality with textures and tones of white sand, leading into a fine long aromatic finish with lime acids and dried herbs.
