Nicolas Renaud, the winemaker behind Les Clos des Grillons, is a key figure in the new wave of natural winemaking in the Rhône Valley. After leaving his career as a history professor, he pursued his passion for wine, working under Eric Pfifferling at Domaine L’Anglore before establishing his own domaine in 2005. Based in Rochefort-du-Gard, just west of Avignon, Nicolas cultivates around 15 hectares of vineyards using organic and biodynamic practices.
His winemaking philosophy is centered on minimal intervention, native yeast fermentations, and aging in neutral vessels to highlight the purity and freshness of the fruit. The wines of Les Clos des Grillons are known for their finesse, energy, and drinkability, standing out from the more traditional Rhône styles.
