Marie-Thérèse Chappaz is one of Switzerland's most celebrated and pioneering vigneronnes, farming heroic terraced vineyards above the Rhône Valley in Fully, Valais, steep granite and gneiss slopes that require entirely hand-cultivation and represent some of the most physically demanding viticulture in the world. A fierce advocate for indigenous Swiss varieties including Petite Arvine, Humagne, and Ermitage (Marsanne), she has farmed biodynamically for decades and produces tiny quantities of profoundly individual, estate-bottled wines that capture the extreme mountain terroir with extraordinary precision. Her sweet wines, especially the Grains Nobles de Petite Arvine, are considered among the greatest dessert wines in Europe.
