Named after his beloved daughter Léa, this Chenin Blanc comes from a challenging 2024 vintage in Anjou — a year of heavy rainfall and persistent mildew that tested every grower in the region. That Simon Batardière produced a wine of this quality is a testament to his meticulous vineyard work and intuitive winemaking.
Slow-pressed over five hours, fermented with indigenous yeasts, then aged for 12 months in old oak barrels followed by 3 months in tank to build body. No filtration, no sulfite added at any stage. Batardière is part of a thrilling new generation redefining natural wine in Anjou, farming a mix of young vines and century-old parcels on the banks of the Layon River alongside his wife Lénaïg.
Tasting: Delicate nose of white pear, quince, citrus blossom, and wet chalk. The palate is bright and saline with lovely tension between mineral precision and rounded fruit. The finish is long, clean, and utterly drinkable. A wine named with love, made with conviction.
