Before Eric Pfifferling made wine, he kept bees. That background — intimate with soil, seasons, and living systems — shaped everything about how he farms in Tavel, a village on the western bank of the Rhône just north of Avignon. In 2002, after a chance encounter with the wines of Marcel Lapierre and Thierry Puzelat, he left the local cooperative and began making wine on his own terms.

Tavel is France's only AOC designated exclusively for rosé — once one of the most prestigious appellations in the country, beloved by Hemingway and French royalty alike, before industrial farming stripped the wines of their soul. Pfifferling's mission was to bring that soul back. He farms 18 hectares organically across Tavel's three key terroirs — sand, limestone, and lauze (flat inactive limestone) — using herbal treatments and never tilling, to preserve the life in his soils. The vineyards are planted with old co-field blends of Grenache, Cinsault, Carignan, Clairette, and Mourvèdre, some vines over a century old.

In the cellar, whole-cluster carbonic maceration produces wines of extraordinary freshness and perfume — light reds and rosés so similar in color they challenge every assumption about the category. His sons Thibault and Joris now run the domaine day-to-day, carrying forward the same philosophy.

L'Anglore has achieved legendary status in the natural wine world. Bottles are strictly allocated and often limited to one per customer at serious wine shops. When we have them, we say so.
