Yvon Métras is a legendary figure in French natural wine, one of the original Beaujolais pioneers who, alongside Marcel Lapierre and Jean-Paul Brun, helped define what authentic, sulfur-free, terroir-driven Gamay could taste like in the 1980s and 1990s. Based in Fleurie, farming old-vine Gamay on the appellation's distinctive pink granite soils with biodynamic methods and zero additions in the cellar, Métras and his son Jules produce a tiny quantity of bottlings, including the revered "Ultime" and "Printemps", that are benchmarks of the cru Beaujolais movement at its most pure and expressive. These are small-batch wines of extraordinary perfume, energy, and freshness: everything that Beaujolais was born to be. Among the most collected and cherished natural wine addresses in France.
